You will need a new pad if your sandpaper no longer sticks.
For Granat paper not sticking, try a protection or interface pad first. To prevent damage to your pad, heat is the main issue which will melt the hooks on the backing pad.

Keep the sander moving to prevent heat build up, don't use excess pressure
