How can I care for my plunge saw?

What can I do ensure longevity of my tool? THE IMPORTANCE OF ONGOING PLUNGE SAW MAINTENANCE When we discuss maintenance, we refer to the care taken to keep your saw in good working order, from cleaning it and sharpening the blade to changing the motor brushes and more; these practices all have the cumulative effect of extending your plunge saw's lifespan. These easy steps will help keep your tool running smoothly while working safely and efficiently and achieving professional results. Keep Your Plunge Saw Clean Dust and debris will naturally accumulate in and around your plunge saw, potentially affecting its performance as it becomes abrasive, causing premature wear. To prevent damage and unnecessary wear, regularly clean the saw body, the depth scale, and other parts using a soft brush, cotton swab, or cloth. Ensure you remove sawdust from the grooves in the guide rail, around the blade, and the dust port. Additionally, clean the cooling vents to prevent overheating. While cleaning is crucial, it's also important to be aware of the cleaning agents and methods that could potentially harm your saw. Avoid using cleaning agents such as those containing ammonia, which may damage the saw. Avoid using compressed air to clean your plunge saw, as it may blow dust and debris into the motor housing. Never underestimate dust damage; even softwood sawdust can affect performance. Once your saw is clean, the next crucial step towards maintaining its efficiency is blade maintenance. The saw blade is the heart of your plunge saw, and proper maintenance is crucial for its performance and longevity. Keep the saw blade clean by removing any resin or pitch build-up after each use. Use a specialised blade cleaning fluid or a mixture of warm water and mild detergent for cleaning. Ensure the blade is dry before reattaching it. Regularly inspect the blade for any signs of damage, such as worn or missing teeth, cracks, or warping. If you notice any issues, replace the blade immediately to avoid compromising safety and ensure quality cuts. Using a professional saw blade sharpening service is essential, as blunt or improperly sharpened blades are inefficient, strain the motor, damage workpieces, and pose safety hazards. Maintain the Plunge Saw Blade Regularly Inspect Your Plunge Saw As part of your maintenance regimen, regularly inspect the power cord, safety features, handles, and knobs for any signs of wear or damage. Ensure all adjustments can be made smoothly and all the safety features are in working order. While using your saw, listen for unusual sounds, and look for reduced cut quality or power. These can all be symptoms of potential problems, and by addressing them early, you can avoid costly repairs and safety hazards.

My new TS 55 / TS 75 will not plunge to the full depth.

Why?Prior to your first cut using your new saw and guide-rail together, the splinter guard on the guide rail must first be trimmed to allow free movemnt of the saw blade as it plunges down in the cut. To do this, you should trim the splinter guard along its full length. Place the saw on the guide rail, turn the saw on and slowly plunge the saw down and run it along the fill length of the rail to finely trim the edge of the splinter guard. This will ensure a zero tolerance cleance against the blade and the guard.
