Accessories - Dust Separators

What is a dust separator and what are the benefits?

The Festool CT-VA-20 Cyclone Pre Separator (part number 204083) is of the highest benefit when there is a high volume of dust being extracted. The Festool CT Pre Separator with cyclone technology separates and collects coarse and medium dust before it reaches the mobile dust extractor. The dust heavy air that is drawn in is swirled into a spiral movement in the cyclone, causing the dust particles to hit the wall of the separator and, due to the gravitational force, fall into the collection container of the CT Pre Separator . For tradies who work with large volumes of dust and debris, the CT Cyclone pre-separator is the simplest answer for increasing the efficiency of your CT Dust Extractor and minimizing its lifetime cost of ownership all within a compact solution that fits seamlessly into the Festool Systainer modular storage system, allowing for easy storage and transportation. Remove larger dust and debris before it fills your filter bag by using the CT Cyclone and reduce how often you need to replace filter bags and filters. Maintains a consistently high suction power as a result of reducing the dust load on the main filter.

Are the CTM Midi and the CT-VA Cyclone Pre Separator designed to be compatiable?

Yes, the two items are compatible however there are some settings to aware of: The separator has a table underneath the separator lid which gives direction to required flow sensor setting. When using the separator with any dust extractor it's usually the next setting from the hose you are using. Example: If using a 36mm hose the flow sensor setting would be 42. Adjust the flow sensor accordingly

Can I use a dust separator in addition to Auto Clean on my dust extractor?

You will always need to use an Autoclean extractor when you are working on plaster or concrete. The separator within this system is even more efficient in coping with the dust flowing into the extractor which will give the filters a longer life span. If you are working with timber dust, you can use the standard M class extractors  but run the separator in conjunction so that it also improves the performance of the machine – i.e. filters.

Can I use the CT-VA Cyclone Pre Separator on the CT 15l Hepa Dust Extractor?.

Yes, the CT-VA can sit on the side of the machine. As the CT 15 does not have Sys locking system, it will not lock on-top of the unit however it can sit alongside the extractor.

Do I lose any suction using the Cyclone Pre Separator on my vacuum? Do I need to adjust the hose diameter setting?

There is a slight reduction in suction when using the CT-VA Cyclone Pre Separator. You will need to check the table inside the seperator lid to adjust the flow setting to suit.

Can I use a longer hose with a CT-VA cyclone?

If the longer hose is used in conjunction with a 150mm sander it won’t affect the result, but if it’s a tool producing more dust than the 150mm sander, it will have an effect. For example: A router, depending on the cutter used, usually requires full extraction from a 3.5 m hose.

Does using the cyclone (CT-VA) mean I never have to replace the bag?

The CT-VA Cylcone Pre Separator has the benefit of reducing the amount of material/dust entering the bag and prolongs the usable life of the bag.  The bag will still need to be replaced from time to time but extended intervals.

Can I use the Cyclone Separator for fine dust and wood shavings?

Yes you can, the separator has a cyclone cone inside to create air force that makes the larger particles fall down into the bin whilst the very fine dust particles pass on into the dust extractor.

Can I use my Cyclone Pre Separator without a lining bag?

Yes, you can use the pre separator tub to collect material, the plastic liner just makes it easier to empty and also certifies the separator for M class dust.

Which dust extractors can I buy and use a separator to make the bags last longer?

You have the right idea to purchase the two togather to reduce the costs of filter bags. On the product page (search 204083 in the search bar) we list the compatible models. Compatibility: CT 15 / CTM MIDI CTL SYS CTM 26 CTM 36 / CTL 36 CTM 36 AC / CTM 36 AC PLANEX / CTL 36 AC PLANEX CTH 26 CTH 48

Dust Extractor Machine Questions

Can I convert my L Class Dust Extractor to M Class?

No, the M Class Dust Extractor emits an audible alarm when the airflow is reduced and this is not available for retrofit. This is a safety feature to ensure optimum air flow is maintained to protect your health.

Can I replace the carbon brushes in my Dust Extractor motor?

The carbon brushes in some motors of Festool Dust Extractors are not available as spare parts. The motor in these dust extractors can be replaced, however, the brushes are not replaceable.  The carbon brushes have a very long life in these motors  and are expected to last the lifetime of the motor. If the brushes have worn out then it is highly likely that the motor is in need of replacing as well. There are some versions of extractors which do have brushes, please refer to the spare part drawings , https://www.festool.com.au/spare-parts or speak to us or a warranty agent  https://www.festool.com.au/services/festool-warranty-agents.html If you have any concerns about the brushes or motor in your dust extractor please contact our Service Department.

Can a single extractor be used for both workshops and construction sites?

Yes, the only question is how appropriate it is to use a single extractor for workshops and construction sites. For instance, a CTH 48l H Class Dust Extractor weighing more than 18kg may be too heavy to be transported for smaller tasks. Nor is extracting mineral dusts without the AC function recommended. Also, it is not beneficial to use a CT SYS for extraction at workshops if the machines used produce high volumes of dust, for example routers or planers. This is because the container of this suction device would be filled within a few seconds. In these cases, machines with larger dust containers would be better suited. If you would like to use a single extractor for workshops and construction sites at the same time, you should be clear beforehand about the type and quantity of dust and check whether your machine meets the requirements for dust-free work. For more information on working with dust and dust safety

Can the CTM 26 be modified to be an auto-clean extractor?

No. Due to the motor design, the CTM 26 cannot be modified to accept an auto-clean system.

How do I find the right extractor?

To enable dust-free work, you should first carefully consider where the machine will be used. For example, if you are using the extractor at construction sites, a smaller and more compact machine is considerably easier to carry. The CTM MIDI or CTM 26 by Festool are suitable for this purpose, for example. If you quickly produce high volumes of dust or have a dedicated space for the machine at your workshop, you may wish to opt for a suction device with a larger number. If you produce fine dust while working, such as when using a wall scraper or for routing work on screed, you should ensure that an automatic cleaning system, which knocks the fine dust from the filter, is incorporated in the extraction device. CTM E AC 26, or 36 Festool extractors are suitable for this purpose.Provided that it is precisely known what work is performed and which dust is generated, in most cases an extractor from class M will suffice. These extractors will typically deal with all of the dust that is generated at construction sites or workshops, such as household dust, plaster, clay, ceramics, lime, paint, varnish, wood, concrete, cement and screed. Only the CTH 26 model by Festool allow hazardous and carcinogenic dust, such as asbestos and mould, to be extracted – therefore enabling flawless and dust-free work.

Should I always run my vacuum and LHS at maximum speed?

Best to adjust the speed of both sander and vacuum to suit the material, surface and finish needed. If the extraction is too strong it may cause sanding to be too aggressive

Can I use dust extraction when cutting aluminium with my KS120/88/60 or TS 55/60/75?

Yes. Dust extraction can be used when cutting aluminium.

Can I use the dust extraction with a drill to save time on clean up?

Yes the dust extraction nozzle can be used with any drill and upto a drill bit diameter of 12mm. Search for 500483 in the search bar

Can the AGC 125 be used as a wet cutter to reduce dust?

No this isn’t an option. The AGC 125mm Cordless Angle Grinder is designed to minimise dust by using a Dust Extractor while cutting.

Can the cordless dust extractors also be used with mains power?

No, the cordless dust extractor range are cordless only and cannot be directly plugged into power points to use mains power.

How do I know which dust extractor is suitable for my application?

It is important, particularly when working with hazardous material that you choose the right dust extractor right for you job. There are many different materials that require particular filtration to maintain safe working environment. To help you make the right decision, Festool has put together a range of information and resources on Dust Safety. Use the expandable menu in the dust extractor section to review all these

I've just tried to stack my systainer on my dust extractor and the latch lugs on the systainer is opposite to the moulded feet.

The Systainers have 2 locking options, the TLoc or the 4 Systainer clips on the side. The locking options are not used at the same time together. When the TLoc is used the Systainer is locked at the back and then locked in front with the TLoc connector. When used with the 4 clips (designed also for the older non TLoc Systainers) the Systainer is turned the opposite way.

Is a dust extractor needed when using the Domino DF 500/700?

Yes, a dust extractor should always be used with either Domino machine. Without dust extraction the mortise clogs with dust and could reduce lifespan of cutters as well as the dustbeing a health hazzard.

Is it possible to store my Dust extractor on its side for transport, rather than the wheels?

Your Dust Extractor can be transported on it side but the dust may find its way back down the inlet and into the hose.A good way to avoid this dust ingress is to remove the hose and use blanking plug (part number 452899) to seal it off.

is it possible to store or transport my dust extractor on its side?

It can be transported on it side but the dust may find its way back down the inlet to the hose. A way to rectify this is to remove the hose and use blanking plug (part number 452899) to seal it off. Otherwise the extractor on its side will be fine.

My dust extracter stopped working, what do I do?

Please contact our customer service (info in footer) so we can help you with troubleshooting and next steps

What tools can be used with Festool Dust Extractors that have a plug on the front of the machine?

The Festool dust extractors are packed with features and technology to provide you with the cleanest, safest, dust-free working environment possible including some models that have a plug on the front so that turning on the tool also turns on the dust extractor, this includes an In-built circuit breaker, that can be easily reset in the event it is triggered. This is to protect the Dust Extractor in the event of excessive current being drawn from the tool being used. This protects the load on the wall plug, since the tool + the dust extractor load will be added together here through a single cable. The tool will be disconnected from the power and will stop straight away if the load is excessive. Please check the "Maximum Wattage of Connected Tool" technical data for your machine, the CTH 26L H Class dust extractor recommends using tools less than 1200W plugged in on the front panel. More powerful tools will require a direct connection to the wall and a bluetooth module to turn on and off.

Why does the KA 65 Conturo Edge Bander have a dust port?

The dust port on the KA 65 Conturo Edge Bander can be used for transfer of fumes or cooling of the machine.

Why is my CT26/36 (M & H Class) Dust Extractor warning signal beeping without extracting hazardous or dangerous dusts?

To safely bypass the warning signal on your CT26/36 Dust Extractor you should set the hose diameter on the vacuum to a size smaller than the actual hose size. This does NOT affect the airspeed, but the air flow sensor will trigger at a lower setting due to the expected smaller diameter hose. If problems persist please contact Festool customer service for a technican to help.

Why is my dust extractor constantly beeping?

The beeping on your Festool Dust Extractor could be caused of the hose, tub or filter, to troubleshoot this issue conduct the relevant test below. CT26/36:Remove hose, tub and filter. Turn hose dial to 50. Machine should beep from lowest suction to about half. MIDI: Remove hose, tub and filter. Set dial to 50. The machine should beep on speeds 1, 2 and sometimes 3. Speed 4 & 5 at 50mm should not beep indicating a possible problem. If the beeping persists please contact Festool service to have your extractor checked by a Festool technician.

Why is the warning signal on my M Class Dust Extractor beeping?

The M Class Dust Extractors have a mandatory warning signal (beeper) installed. The beeper is to alert the operator that the required airflow for safely vacuuming HAZARDOUS/DANGEROUS dust is NOT being produced and the operator should stop and clear the blockage before proceeding (clogged filter, dust bag, hose, tool). For more information on working safely with hazardous substances please see our Dust Safety page on the Festool website .If you have problems with your Dust Extractor please contact Festool service for a technician to examine your tool.

Questions about types of dust

What is the difference between L and M class dust extractors?

The 'M' Class dust extractor has an audible flow alarm (beeper) to alert you that the air flow has reduced below the threshold to safely remove dangerous dust and to immediately remedy the cause of reduced flow. M Class extractors are required to have a filter rated at 99.9% efficiency of dust at 0.3micron size. L Class machines are required to have a filter rated at 99.0% efficient with dust at 0.3 micron size.  (H Class require a filter rated at 99.995 efficiency with dust of 0.3 micron size)

What class dust extractor do I use for concrete and fibre cement?

Festool dust extractors are Number 1 for hazardous dust. For concrete and fibre cement the M class extractor with the Auto clean will be needed. This system uses an open bag and the Auto-Clean function cleans the filter every 10 seconds to keep the extraction consistent.

What dust extractor do I need when working with asbestos?

If asbestos is present during extraction work, only use an H Class certified extractor, as such dust is considered to be highly hazardous, certain requirements apply to the dust extractor such as: Integrated air speed measurement (20 m/s) Filtering: 0.005% max. extractor permeability, Flow sensor alarm, Safety dust bag 497542 and H class filter 205198

What are the different dust classes?

Dust that is produced while working is divided into three classes. This process specifies the extractor's suitability for any given dust class and the maximum allowable concentrations (MAC). The dust classes also define the filter system's required degree of filtration for dust-free work. The different classes are as follows:• Dust class L• Dust class M• Dust class H. Dust in dust class L is considered to be "Lightly" hazardous. Dust class L therefore includes simple and harmless dust, e.g. household dust, soil, lime, paint and varnish. Moreover, a maximum extraction permeability of 1% applies to all dust in this class with a maximum occupational exposure limit of more than 1 mg/m³. This is because the lower the occupational exposure limit value, the more harmful the dust. It is also vital to choose the dust class of your mobile dust extractor according to the material you use. Dust in class M is referred to as "Moderately" hazardous and includes wood, concrete, cement, screed, copper and borax. This class is used for dust with an occupational exposure limit value of more than 0.1 mg/m³.The permeability of the extractor should be 0.1% in order to enable dust-free work. Meanwhile, dust class H comprises "Highly" hazardous dust, such as germs, bacteria, asbestos, viruses, mold, cadmium, formaldehyde, potassium dichromate and carcinogens. This class applies to all dust with a maximum occupational exposure value lower than or equal to 0.1 mg/m³ and a maximum extraction permeability of 0.005%. For more information on working with dust and other hazardous substances please see our Dust Advice pages

How far can silica dust travel?

Silica dust less than 10 μm is light enough and has enough surface area to stay airborne long enough to travel beyond occupational zones.

How much silica dust is harmful?

It usually takes many years of silica exposure to develop silicosis, but “extremely high exposures across the short-term can cause it to develop rapidly.”

Does silica dust leave the lungs?

“The only way to get the retained dust out of the lungs is either to pass it on to other cells or cough it up.” If silicosis is developed, there is no way to reverse it.

What are the silica dust regulations or rules?

They vary State by State. Best place to start is Safe Work Australia. This information is very important for both employers and employees alike to know. You should also check your State's Work Safe website for specifics that may apply to your work

What can silica dust exposure cause?

Lung cancer, silicosis (“an irreversible scarring and stiffening of the lungs”), kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.

Who is exposed to silica dust?

Anyone working in a trade that does the following: Breaking, crushing, grinding or milling material containing silica dust. Sand blasting or casting. Paving, surfacing or cement finishing. Bricklaying. Demolition work. Road construction. Stonemasonry. Mineral ore-treating processes. Manufacture of glass, ceramics, brick, concrete, tile, metals or machinery

Where does silica dust come from?

It’s the dust generated from materials that contain crystalline silica such as stone, rock, sand, bricks, tiles and concrete.

Why is dust hazardous?

Tradespeople or people who work at construction sites often produce a high volume of dust while working. Some of this dust contains extremely hazardous substances, meaning that incorrect extraction can lead to small quantities being inhaled and this may cause illnesses. For example, irritation and other diseases may be caused when working in dusty conditions:• Asthma• Bronchitis• Lung cancer• Bronchial cancer• Mouth and throat cancer• Skin cancer• Nasal mucous membrane cancerIn particular, fine dust is too small to be filtered through the nasal hairs or mucous membranes and can therefore quickly enter the lungs, potentially causing severe damage. Silica and asbestos dust are particularly dangerous and considered to be carcinogenic. However, in the long term, wood dust may also lead to nasal cancer. You should therefore take extreme care to avoid inhaling high volumes of dust over a short period of time and use the appropriate precautionary measures for dust-free work.

Why is silica dust dangerous?

Materials that contain crystalline silica are not hazardous unless they are disturbed, generating small-sized particles that can get in your lungs. Once the dust is in your lungs, it can lead to a number of life-threatening and irreversible illnesses. This is an extremely important topic which Festool takes very seriously. Festool build their tools with dust safety foremost in mind, this is why Festool is a leader in the development of Dust Extractors and integrating with as many tools as possible to reduce risk.

What class of extractor do I need? L, M or H?

Firstly, you should determine which types of dust you are faced with at the workplace. This will provide the basis for initially assessing the correct dust class. Festool offer extractors for L, M and H dust classes. In many cases, a dust extractor from class M will suffice. These products extract most of the dust that is produced at construction sites or workshops, including drywall dust, household dust, plaster, clay, ceramics, paint, lime, varnish, wood, concrete, cement and screed. If harmful substances such as asbestos or mould have to be extracted, there are certain special extractors (CTH), which fall under class H and enable dust-free extraction. For more information on working with dust and dust safety, please see our Dust Safety page here and more information on different dust classes here.

Can I get fined for inadequate safety procedures when handling of silica dust?

If you don’t meet your state’s regulations when working with high-risk materials, yes you can get fined.

Can silica dust cause cancer?

Yes.

Can you see silica dust?

No. Silica dust is almost impossible to see with the human eye as the particles are 100 times smaller than a grain of sand.

How big is the silica dust issue in Australia?

It’s estimated that 600,000 Australians are exposed to silica dust in the workplace each year and that 200-230 Australians develop lung cancer each year as a result of silica dust.

How can silica dust be measured?

By an Occupational Hygienist. Melbourne's Eva & Associates are one example of a company that has Silica dust experience.

Bluetooth

Are Bluetooth batteries required on cordless tools to be able to use the cordless dust extractor?

No, Bluetooth batteries are not required. Cordless tools with no Bluetooth batteries can be used and the dust extractor can be turned on and off at the tool by using the Cordless Bluetooth Remote (202098) which is included with the Dust Extractor https://www.festool.com.au/bluetoothremote-control-for-additional-hoses-202098.html

Can I pair my non Festool Bluetooth tool to the Bluetooth on my dust extractor?

No, a non Festool Bluetooth tool cannot be paired to the Festool Dust Extractor. If wanting to use other tools with a Festool Dust Extractor we recommend using the Bluetooth remote (#202098).The CT26, 36 and 48 will require Bluetooth module and remote control 202097, the CT Mini and Midi will just require a remote control 202098 as Bluetooth come standard with these Dust Extractors.

Can I use the Bluetooth remote control to switch on my Festool dust extractor using a competitors blue tooth battery?

Although the competitors Bluetooth battery is not compatible with Festool Bluetooth, you can use the Festool remote control to switch on the extractor when using cordless tools from other manufacturers.

Does the Bluetooth still work while a corded tool is connected to a dust extractor?

The Bluetooth switch still works with a Festool remote or a Festool Bluetooth battery even if there's a tool plugged into the Dust Extractor. But you should only use one tool at a time otherwise the connection between the Bluetooth and the Dust Extractor can unpair.

How many Bluetooth batteries can be hooked up to a dust extractor?

Just one Bluetooth battery used with a dust extrator at any one time. The Bluetooth remote control (202098) can be used to pair more than one tool

How many Bluetooth Batteries can you hook up to a dust extractor?

Only one Bluetooth battery at a time can be connected to a Bluetooth module.

How to connect Bluetooth batteries to a dust extractor?

The Festool 18V Bluetooth battery can be connect to a Festool dust extractor that either has the Bluetooth module built into it or it has been retrofitted with the Bluetooth Remote Control Set (202097).

Filters/Bags

Are there any risks with dust extraction of aluminium in bags or vacuum? ie for CSC 50/ KS/TS tool

When extracting aluminuim chips this can be done with a standard Dust Extractor. When sanding aluminium it is reccomended to use an extractor with a brushless motor. Currently, Festool do not offer a dust extractor for aluminuim sanding applications.

Can a dust bag be attached to the TS 55 REBQ plunge cut saw?

Yes, a dust bag (product number 500393 ) can be attached to the TS 55 REBQ plunge saw. To be able to do this you would need to replace an angle piece on the protective cover. Product number of the angle piece is 202096

Can a long life bag be used in the CTM 36 Planex when sanding with my Planex Dust Extractor?

No, the long life bag should not be used when sanding plaster dust with a PLANEX system. Because plaster dust is so fine, if the long life bag were to be used, this extremely fine dust can clog the pores of the bag quickly therefore reducing the effectiveness of the dust extraction. Festool recommends using a CT 36 Autoclean Dust Extractor when working with plaster and concrete dust with the open plastic bag.

Can I fit a dust bag to my old TS 55 or new TS 60?

Yes, the Dust Catch Bag for TSC 55 & HKC 55 (part number 500393) is compatible with all TS 55/60/75 and HK 55/85/132

Can I reuse a Replacement Self Cleaning filter bag?

The self clean filter bags are designed to capture the dust and for the bag to be sealed off with the sliding seal for safety. There is no direct way to empty the bags and the user could notice a reduction in suction as the bag can tend to clog.

Can I use a hepa filter (part number 205412) in my CTM 36l M Class Autoclean Dust Extractor for ultra fine particles dusts when cutting MDF board and other fine sanding application?

Yes you can use the hepa filter in the CTM 36l M Class Autoclean Dust Extractor for ultra fine particles dusts when cutting MDF board and other fine sanding applications however it is not recommended by Festool. This is because the the flow sensor alarm may go off prematurely and constantly as the CTM 36l was not being designed to work optimally with a hepa filter.

Can I use a long life bag for plaster dust

It is not recommended to use a long life bag for pplaster dust as the bag will clog prematurely reducing extraction consistency. For plaster applications we recommend Auto Clean extractors for consistent performance.

Can I use the TS/HK tool dust catch bag when cutting aluminium?

The bag is designed for wood dust only, so there is a chance the aluminium may damage it or the bits get stock in the material, so use of the dust catcher bag is at your discretion!

Can the 201693 Long life filter dust bag be used for all ETS, DTS, RTS and ETSC, DTSC , RTSC Sanders?

Although the bag is shown as a male the housing can be clipped on for use with the mains powered ETS,DTS & RTS or for unclipped for use with the  ETSC,DTSC & RTSC sanders. The image below is shown in the relevant pictures as this is the way it is fitted to the tool. So one bag fits all palm sanders. This bag is also suitable for the ETS150 sanders but not the ETSEC as that hasn’t got a internal fan to move the dust into the bag.

Can the main filter be cleaned at all? Perhaps with another dust extractor just to pull the visible soiling off the surface of the flutes of the filter?

Best practice for a clogged filter is changeover as the dust can inpregnate into the filter folds and clog once again very quickly and reduce performance on the tool. The L & M class filters can be cleaned by extracting dust with a suitable dust extractor of the dust class being removed, however we couldn't recommend it for H class filters that are used with hazardous dust.

Dust is escaping from the grey long life bag in my Dust Extractor and reaching the filter, why is this happening and what can be done?

The inlet seal on the bag (which is user replaceable see spare parts -> EKAT drawings) could be worn and not sealing properly. The closure on the bag (which is also replaceable) may be cracked. The bag may not have the closure fitted correctly (a common issue is to not fold the bag correctly) The bag may be damaged, torn or the stitching might be failing. The bag may simply be worn out.

How to tell if an older HEPA filter is worn out?

Once the filter is visible, a close inspection may reveal the fabric has "worn away" leaving gaps/holes between the fibres. If the problem identified is impacting the performance of the machine it may need to be replaced.

I have a Festool Dust Extractor. It seems as if the dust is somehow bypassing the filter bag and clogging the main filter. I cannot figure out why.

There are two stages of filtration in our dust extractors: The filter bag The filter itself The filter bag is designed to capture larger particles of dust while some of the small particles may pass through to the filter itself through the breathable holes in the bag. The breathable holes in the bag allow the extraction to stay consistent while the bag is filling to its maximum capacity. As the smaller paarticles of dust pass through these holes the filter is capturing the smaller dust particles. Therefore if you use your dust extractor with very fine dust (such as concrete for example), it is possible that the filter has some dust already accumulated in it and if that's the case you may need to replace the filter.

Is it possible to change the filter of a CTM midi to a Hepa filter

Yes, it is possible, you can purchase the 204201 Main filter however the M Class filter part no. 204200 is also a Hepa type filter. See and view the features tab for the 204201 and the features tab for the 204200

Is using the Dust Catch Bag on my TS 55 or HKC as efficient as using them with dust extraction?

A Dust Catch Bag is efficient to 90%, compared with 95% for Dust Extraction (using an attached Dust Extractor). You will also need to empty the Dust Bag quite often (depending on usage) to maintain the dust collecting efficiency of the dust bag.

On what extractors can I use a H class filter?

The H class filters can be used in the CT 26 or CT 36 and CT 48  dust extractors for improved filtration but not for hazardous dust extraction. H Class extractors require a flow sensor and a special dust bag that are not features of the above machines. The CTM 26 and CTM 36 cannot be used for carcinogenic dust as it has not got the appropriate features and accessories required. The CTH dust extractors require a H class filter and special dust bag to be used with carcinogenic dust.

What are the sizes of replacement dust bags for sanders?

Sizes of replacement bags for Festool sanders are as follows. RS/RTS 400, DS400, DTS400, ES125, ETS125 Dimensions - 15cm x 7cm Availlable in:5 Pack -  Part number 489128   RS300, RS3, RS200, RS2, ES150, ETS150, ET2 is 23cm x 8cmDimensions - 23cm x 8cm Available in:5 Pack - Part number 48777925 pack - Part number 487871 See all the replacement bags for Festool Sanders here.

Why are the filters and bag on my extractor filling up with fine dust/plaster dust so quickly?

Make sure the dust bag is sealed properly. The filter in your Festool vacuum won't get clogged quickly if the dust bag is sealed properly to trap all/most dust inside.Check to see if the filter is worn and needs replacing then, to clean the filter, turn Auto Clean ON if the machine has this feature or lightly brush the debris from the filter.

Why does my auto clean dust extractor keep beeping when the bag is only half full while sanding dry wall/concrete ?

For sanding dry wall & concrete, plastic waste bag 496215 is recommended. Fine dust generated from sanding such applications tend to clog up the enclosed bag.  With the plastic bag, the filter is fully exposed. Fine dust built up on the filter will be shaken off by the auto clean function of the dust extractor.  Watch the Tool Tip video on changing the dust extractor bag:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tt2SUFR_wdkSee how the auto-clean function works:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F-Fco9so1o

What's the difference between a suction hose and anti static suction hose?

A suction hose is ridged and designed for general clean up duties. Static can build up during use with a power tool causing dust to build up along the hose as well as give the user static shocks.A smooth anti-static hose will not catch on edges as easily and it conducts static electricity to the ground.Festool antistatic hoses have no visible electric leads; the high-carbon plastic they are made from conducts high voltage. The tool is grounded by way of the hose, through dust extractor, to the ground via the unit's power source.

Whats the longest recommended hose length i can run on a Dust extractor?

There is no recommended hose length. Hose length largely depends on the tool being used. For example a sander (ETS) could have effective extraction of 20 metres of hose without any drop in performance in gathering dust. Whereas a saw, such as a TSC 55  or a router like an OF 2200 needs more concentrated extraction and is recommeded to run a maximum of a 3.5 metre hose for best performance. Sometimes a larger diameter hose is recommended for certain applications, such as large volumes of dust or coarser chips.

When would Festool recommend using the Anti Static Smooth Hose D36mm x 3-5m with RFID (204924) instead of the Anti Static Smooth Hose D36 32mm x 3-5m with RFID (204923)

The 204924 (36mm) hose is best for general clean-up when using floor wands/ nozzles, to help minimise blockages and for maximum flow with cleaning equipment. The slightly tapered 204924 (36/32mm) is suggested when connected to a power tool to increase the rate of suction (for example concrete grinder RG 130 EC ).

Which hose does the PF 1200 dust port fit?

My Festool Vacuum seems to have less suction than it did before.

A full dust bag, blocked hose or clogged filter can reduce the suction. Therefore empty the dust bag, free up the hose or clean the filter to improve the suction of the machine.Check if the hose is blocked and clear any debris.Another troubleshooting method is to check if the filter is clogged by shaking/tapping/vacuuming the filter. If your extractor still appears to be lacking suction please contact Festool service to have your extrator looked at by a Festool technician.

My mains powered dust extractor stopped working when I was using a tool..What do I do?

Check the circuit breaker did not trip by pressing the reset button above the power socket or press the large green power button on the CTM Midi. The Bluetooth system (sold seperately) can be used to turn the extractor on/off.

The M Class Dust Extractors have a maximum combined wattage of 1200w. How can I run a powerful tool with that?

You may find that the dust extractor overloads when drawing more power than the current Australian Regulations allow. To combat this issue Festool have the Bluetooth Remote Set that can be retrofitted to most of our dust extractors if they don't already have bluetooth on board - this allows you to plug your tool into a separate power source, but still allows you the functionality of being able to turn the dust extractor on and off at the tool (no need to keep returning to the unit) https://www.festool.com.au/bluetooth-remote-control-set-for-ct-263648-202097.html

Which sanders can be used without Dust Extraction and which ones need dust extraction?

It is always advisable to use some form of dust extraction when sanding. Sanding, on most surfaces, creates fine particles that can be harmful even in small amounts. Please see our valuable resource on Dust Safety for important information. The ETS 150 sanders can be used without dust extraction as it has an internal fan that will remove the dust and can be used with a dust collection bag. The RO 150, RO 125, RO 90, and ETS EC have no fans so it is essential to use them in conjunction with a dust extractor (see the Festool range of Dust Extractors here) and for further information on working with dust and other hazardous substances. Please also note when sanding without Dust Extractor, the abrasive life and the life of the tool, in the long run, will decrease.
